CAMELON DERAILMENT
(taken 14th February 2003)

This photograph shows a '66' running 'wrong line' across the swingbridge in Falkirk. The reason for the opposite running was that at about midnight on February 11th 2003, another '66' with fuel wagons from BP at Grangemouth derailed its last wagon and dragged it for 2.5 miles. Costs of repair to track and points are estimated at £1M.

No-one was hurt in this incident but fears were raised that a train carrying this type of cargo should travel so far partly derailed. EWS assured the BBC that the wagoons are designed to withstand such incidents. The initail cause is believed to be track 'spreading'.
